About the Position
Rise seeks a qualified individual to join its growing team working to protect the civil rights for sexual assault survivors everywhere. The Program Associate will wear several hats in a fast-paced and often-changing work environment. The Program Associate will serve as a regular contact for outward facing communications and will manage the daily operations of Rise’s social media accounts, as well as assisting in the organization of state legislative campaigns and management of Rise’s volunteer base around the country.
The position is located in Washington, DC, but remote location will be considered for the right candidate. Occasional travel will be required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as secondary organizer for external communications on all matters pertaining to Rise
Create graphics and content for our social media accounts and use in internal and external materials and communications
Create content for and manage regular external communications, including a regular Rise newsletter
Assist in developing, edit, and review internal documents and briefing materials, including informational memos, internal policies and procedures, and training materials
Serve as secondary contact with media outlets and personalities, including developing and delivering story pitches and handling all media requests
Assist in the recruitment, training, and coaching of a team of Risers in states for Rise Up campaigns adhering to Rise Up’s values and mission
Monitor progress towards metrics for Rise Up state campaigns
Provide direct support to the CEO in media events, including staffing, research, briefings, and preparation of materials for events where media is present, and researching and pursuing opportunities for media
Emphasize and contribute to a strong professional culture among Rise Up employees and volunteers focused on accountability, specific goals, utilization of best practices,
innovation, and sense of purpose
Complete additional projects and other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree or higher
5+ years of work experience in communications positions, especially in political, nonprofit, government, or campaign fields
Excellent writing and proofreading skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite
Demonstrated experience in social media management and content creation
Highly developed organizational, planning and management skills and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others
Some graphic design experience preferred
Knowledge of the federal and state legislative processes preferred
